Kyla grew up in Aotearoa/New Zealand in rural and small communities, under the shadow of Taranaki Maunga (Mount Taranaki). Upon leaving school, Kyla became an outdoor adventure instructor specialising in rock climbing and mountaineering which included a passion for learning about native flora and fauna.

Whilst conducting the physical training required for activities such as these, Kyla found herself drawn towards rescue and became a search and rescue operator through NZ Police Mountain Rescue and a volunteer firefighter in a number of NZ Firebrigades.

In 1997, Kyla moved to Australia to pursue a career in rescue, joining the NSW Police Force and gaining the accreditation of Police Rescue Operator in 1999. During this time Kyla also obtained a position as a retained firefighter in NSW Fire and Rescue. Kyla was stationed within the Blue Mountains Local Area Command for most of her career, moving further out west to work in rural communities as a general duties police officer.

In 2018, after serving 21 years, Kyla was medically retired from NSW Police Force.

Kyla was diagnosed with PTSD, depression and anxiety and found solace in returning to her earlier happier days which coincided with being outdoors in nature. In 2019, she commenced studying for her Bachelor of Environmental Science (with specialisations) and soon found that passion from her earlier years and need to help people.

Kyla started to form the idea of creating a business to return health to the land and to help people work towards their dreams. Kyla realised that in order to cover the requirements of people living on the land, she needed to gain knowledge of general agricultural and horticultural principals, as well as historical and first nations peoples knowledge and consent. So in 2025, Kyla will obtain the qualification of Bachelor of Environmental Science (Ecological Conservation) after completing subjects involving, Environmental, Horticultural and Agricultural science, First Nations teachings, and ecological knowledge in flora, fauna, water and climate.

Corner Pocket is a consulting business with a difference. This business is not about Kyla – it is about you and your dreams. Kyla is the facilitator, co-ordinator and organiser of the myriad of pockets that can help you towards obtaining your Corner Pocket of Paradise.
